Tolstoy was born into a wealthy family in 1828 and was educated at home by tutors. He served in the Crimean War before turning to writing full-time. His works are known for their realism, psychological depth, and moralistic themes. He also wrote extensively on non-fiction topics such as religion, politics, education, and social reform. Tolstoy died in 1910 at the age of 82.
